Are you living the dream in your current career? If so, what are you doing? If not, what is your dream career? I'd love to see how many other people are living their dream out there. And I'd love to see where the grass is greener from others' perspectives (what everyone else sees as the ultimate job).

Love my current job at Citibank :) But would also love to help people with their money. Going to Certified Financial Planner (hopefully in a couple of years). Also love to teach the young adults on money management. Exploring that venue in the future with my church

Lately, I have been really not-liking my job as a Purchasing Agent.  I drive an hour each way to work, the work is unfulfilling, and I am just bored with it.  I've been with this company since I graduated from College in 2002.  I spoke to hubby recently, and it is agreed that I should leave.  However, before doing so, we need to do the following:

Pay off our last debt ($7350 on a credit card)

Save up 3 months of my income ($6000)

I would also like to read, “48 Days to the Work You Love.”

I love animals, but I also love to talk about money and numbers.  So, Matt, I may like to do financial planning. I would love to help other people in their journey to debt freedom.

At the moment, I am also trying to get three other small-businesses up and running.  One is a home inventory busy, the other is a craft business (craft shows, etsy, etc.) and the third I kind of just stumbled upon trying to get rid of books.  I have been selling books on Amazon.com, and doing pretty well with it.

Any suggestions? :-)

Great posts, Susan & Meg. There seems to be a trend here – get rid of your debt and help others with their money. Worked for me. sf wink Forum

Meg, if you're looking for your own copy of 48 Days to the Work you Love, you can get one in our bookstore. I also recommend starting with a DISC personality profile (available in our store) to guide you in the right direction. Very inexpensive but very helpful.

Ok, now that the selling is done sf embarassed Forum, I would challenge you to have a little larger emergency fund before making the leap (around 6-12 months is ideal but if you can live off of your husband's income it's not as big of a deal). It's also not a bad thing to get each of your side businesses running smoothly with good systems in place first, so they can make as much passive income as possible before you take on another business.

Planning is also an important step that too many people miss. It helps to have a solid plan in place before jumping in. Saves a lot of headaches later on!

Both of you have great passion and intensity, which is more than half of the equation. Dream the dream and go get it!

This is a great question – I think about it often and either can't come up with a straight answer, or I come up with an answer that differs from the answer I came up with the last time I asked myself this question.

I do love the job I have now – the work can be interesting, the work can be intense (but also some days are more relaxed), the work can vary, I have a GREAT boss, GREAT coworkers, and the salary is good (for now).

That being said, here are some of my dream jobs:

Child psychologist - this was my goal but I seem to be on a different career path at the moment.  I have not ruled this out for the future, but it doesn't make as much sense for me right now as the path I'm on (I don't think).  I'd need 8 more years of graduate-level studies before I could start working in the field and not really be able to work for those 8 years…and somehow fit in starting a family in there.  It's possible, but how enjoyable would it be?  I do have to say two of my passions in life are children and psychology, so it IS a good fit for me.

Entrepreneur in some kind of crafty business – Sewing?  Knitting?  Baking?  Chocolate making?  Something for kids and/or weddings?  I have a couple ideas for this in the works just to make money on the side.  If I could make a GOOD living doing this, it would be a dream!  I don't think I have the skills or speed for it though (I could learn it, I'm sure).  I remember seeing the lady who started the Build-a-Bear stores on Oprah some years ago and I often think of her story http://money.cnn.com/2009/11/0…../index.htm  THAT is a dream!!!!!

Mom – I don't have kids yet, but part of me sometimes thinks that a dream job would to just be a mom.  Nothing else to worry about but my kids (ok, and I guess the housework, cleaning, and my husband!).  But then, I'm not so sure about this one.  I love learning and working in a stimulating environment and I think if I just stayed at home I might miss out on these things in some ways.  If I could combine this one with the one above, perhaps THAT is the ultimate dream?  Hmmm…yeah, maybe if I could add in travelling around the country speaking to groups about how I do what I do or something as well.

Oh, I should add to the Build-a-Bear part that she was able to invest $1 million of her own personal savings…that would really help to get a company off the ground but I don't think I know anyone personally who has $1 million in the bank sf laugh Forum

When I was a kid I wanted to be an artist like Lisa Frank. My co-workers pick on my LF lunch box, but she was my hero then.

I figured out when I was in HS that artists don't usually make money, and in fields where they do, it's highly competitive.

I decided to live my mom's dream for me – she had asked me once if I wanted to be a lawyer or teacher.

I went to school to be a HS math teacher. I fell asleep in Calc 3. I asked in the guidance office for a degree I could finish, and was handed the plans for a BA in Political Science.

I suppose I could go back and finish that degree and graduate work to become a lawyer. I could also transfer credits to LTC and get a degree in paralegal.

I currently work full time at a grocery store. I enjoy what I do and get along with my co-workers, but the pay sucks.

If I threw everything out the window and someone was going to pay me six figures to do whatever I wanted? I'd be a receptionist. Answer phones and make appointments, be the gatekeeper and problem solver. Then I'd go home to my kids and make dinner and read bed time stories. (no kids yet, just wishful thinking.)

Ajgrifdog,

I completely understand about living out a parent's dream instead of your own.   As for the receptionist and kids, that is awesome.  I know you can get there one day.

Welcome to the Forum!  It is great to learn about another listener and student of Matt.

We are currently dealing with a VERY sick animal here at our house.  Upon trying to find our pot bellied pig vet's phone number online, I saw that they have a job opening as a receptionist in a location very close to our home.  It made me happy to see the opening, but sad that I was not able to apply for it just yet.  One more debt to pay off and an Emergency Fund is needed before I can throw in the towel at my decent-paying job I've been at for 8 1/2 years.  It is becoming more and more difficult to go to work in the mornings knowing there is a job that I swear was MEANT FOR ME.

But, it wouldnt do anything for our plan if I were to up and quit right now.  We have to stick to accomplishing our goals for the rest of the year, and then I can find any job I want.

Hang in there Meg. The feeling you'll get when your last debt is paid off will be well worth the pain of working a job you hate. That day will come soon enough. Just keep moving forward and you'll be there before you know it!

My dream job would have to include traveling and going to new places. But currently I am stuck in an office that pays just enough, and I have to rely on a Payday Loans No Faxing every time emergencies happen, which is quite a hassle. I had long to have a job that pays more than I need, so I could save up and be totally financially independent.

Don’t give in to the Payday Loan cycle!! You can break out of it and be financially independent. It starts (of course) by reading all the great content on our blog :) and before you know it, you’ll be debt free!
