28 Oct Personality and Career
Is there a perfect career for my personality?
It’s not exactly what has been asked by recent clients…but almost.
We talk a lot about ‘Personality’ in the career coaching process. There are certain personalities that ‘fit’ better with certain types of careers.
For example I’m an ENFP (Extravert, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceiving) personality type. Through the years, I’ve learned what fits well with my personality…and what doesn’t.
For several years, I just ‘tried harder’ in a role that was really tough for me. It was a very technical role…I had to keep track of lots of details day to day. I could do it…but it took a TON of energy.
A few years back, I realized that there were certain careers that were more appealing to me. They almost all revolved around ‘people’. So…I decided to make a switch.
I moved to Ukraine and became and English Teacher. That was really cool…and I learned a lot.
When I moved back to the U.S. in 2005, I was back in a technical role for a while…but I just couldn’t do it. After I’d ‘tasted’ something different, I couldn’t go back.
I switched into a Sales role and have really enjoyed that the last few years. It’s a better ‘fit’ for me.
No, you probably can’t find a ‘perfect’ fit for your career. But….You can find a ‘good’ fit. Possibly…a better fit than what you have.
