What are you Willing to Sacrifice to be Debt Free?

Cut up your credit cards

I was thinking a little about the process of eliminating your debt, and I know the speed at which you become debt free is directly related to your intensity. Basically, that means you have to make sacrifices if you want to get out of debt more quickly.

I’m curious what sacrifices some of you have made to get out of debt. We’ve done the no eating out, no vacation, spend less on Christmas thing but we were fortunate in that we didn’t have a huge amount of debt to begin with. So in our case we just had to do a written budget and say no to a bunch of wants. A little discipline made a huge difference for us.

I’m looking for some motivation or inspiration. What have you given up to reach your financial goals? What creative ways have you found to save money, make extra money, pay off debt, or build your emergency fund? Have you driven a clunker held together with chicken wire? Have you eaten ramen noodles and peanut butter sandwiches for 30 straight days? ave you sold your kids on Craigs List? Share your story here and help motivate those who are on the fence with whether they’re serious about sacrificing or not.

Some things I’ve done for traveling is to take along a cooler of food instead of eating out and use websites like Hotwire to get good deals on Motels, etc. Once we stayed in a Doubletree Suite in Chicago for under $40./night.
Also, I usually fill the gas tank up half way in case the price goes down a few days later.

We did that this weekend Gayle – took a cooler along on a road trip to save money by not eating at restaurants. Just takes a little preparation.
