How do podcasts work?
As popular as podcasting has become, we’re finding tons of people who are confused by the term. If you find yourself wondering what a podcast is, you’re not alone. Podcasts got their name from the application – they are recordings that you can download and listen to on your iPod or mp3 player.
In our case, the podcast is a weekly live show where we discuss the debt free way of life and how to be smarter with your finances. Think of it as a talk radio show, only you get to listen to it at your convenience, not during its scheduled air time. We also record the show and make it available for download later.
How do I listen to the live podcast?
Every Tuesday at 10 a.m. Central time, we air the Living in Financial Excellence podcast live on our website. It’s a chance for you to watch Living in Financial Excellence as we record it. You’ll see Matt recording his conversation as it’s happening, and you can see the behind-the-scenes stuff that you won’t hear on the recorded podcast if you listen to it later.
The most beneficial part of watching the show live is that you can join the live chat room during the show. There, fans of the show gather each week to comment on the show content, ask questions, and offer support and encouragement to each other. It’s a lot of fun to chat with like-minded people while listening to the podcast. Plus, you get the chance to heckle Matt during the show and mess with his mojo while he’s talking – and you don’t even have to pay for the opportunity!
How do I listen to the old podcast episodes?
Once we record the show, we save the audio as an .mp3 file. We then type up the major points from the show and add them to a blog post. This is what we call the show notes. Each blog post (show notes) then has the audio file embedded in it so you can play the episode from right there in your browser. If you don’t want to listen to the show via your web browser, you can subscribe to Living in Financial Excellence in iTunes. From there, iTunes will automatically download new episodes and you can listen to them anytime you want.
