The dollar store can be a great place to find bargains, but it can also be a disaster if you are just buying the product because the price tag is a dollar. After all, the quality must not be great if you can charge a dollar for everything and still make money. Yep people back in dollar stores every day and swear by them, so there must be some good. If you can find the right products it can be a great place to save money, but some can be avoided as it would just be throwing money out the window.
First the good.
Cards, Gift Bags, & Balloons
If you have gone to a drug store over even a larger store like Target, you can be surprised to see that cards can cost $6 each for something that the person will read, if you’re lucky save for a couple days, and then throw away, so why spend that much when you pay a dollar for the same thing. Same goes for gift bags and balloons, for something that will last for that day, why pay any more than you have to and just opt for getting them at the dollar store.
Party Decorations
With the number of themes that are out there these days, you can have a party for just about anything. When it comes to decorations, why go overboard when you can pick up a few cheap props for that day. Whether they are streamers, American flag sticks to put in the ground, or items to fill up an Easter basket, really the possibilities are endless and you can be the hit of the party by stocking up on cheap items at the dollar store. It can be easy to go overboard, so just remember that every item you put in your cart is another dollar added.
Now for the bad.
Electronics
Now it shouldn’t be any great shock to you that items that are from the dollar store are not of the best quality, so if you are buying any sort of electronics from there that they are not going to be top of the line. If you see any cables, power strips, they will most likely be junk and not last long, hopefully without causing a fire. If you want to get cheap electronics, your best bet would be to shop on Amazon where you can read reviews, and say you are in need of HDMI cables, there is no point in shopping elsewhere, as Amazon even has their own brand for those sorts of things, so no need to overspend.
Canned Good (or Food in General)
Unless you are picking up a 20oz of Mountain Dew while in the checkout, or a bag of candy, that is probably as far as you should go. If you take a look at some of the brands, I’m not saying that everything has to be a brand name, but if you have never heard of it, and it’s at a dollar store, who knows where it came from, and it’s probably not healthy anyways.
